CSX Railroad spokesman Chris Garrett has notified the Mayor’s Office that the railroad crossings at Washington Avenue and Wabash Avenue are scheduled to be closed for repairs on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, March 8, 9 and 10. These two crossings are scheduled to be open again on Thursday, March 11. This is a tentative schedule and is subject to change due to inclimate weather or for other unforeseen reasons.
Because all railroad crossings in the City of Vincennes are owned by CSX Railroad, the City is not allowed to perform any kind of repairs or maintenance on them. Anyone encountering railroad track crossings which are in need of repair are encouraged to report it immediately to CSX. The number to call is 1-800-848-4542. After dialing this number, please press 7…then please press 4 to speak to a CSX Operator. At each crossing, a white metal plate with black numbers and letters is attached to one of the flashing light poles which contain information necessary for CSX to identify individual crossings.
Vincennes Mayor Al Baldwin extends congratulations to the coaches, players and families of the Vincennes Rivet Lady Patriots Basketball Team. The City of Vincennes is extremely proud of your tremendous efforts and is greatly appreciative of the positive recognition you bring to our community.
For your convenience, information regarding the “Sixth Street Project” is now available on the City Website’s Main Page. Just click on the “Sixth Street Project” icon in the upper right corner of the main page for information about the proposed 6th Street realignment project which involves new bridge construction and grade separation associated with 3 different rail line crossings located within the City of Vincennes. This website link from Beam, Longest and Neff, L.L.C. provides detailed information about the project and will keep the community updated on current developments and public involvement opportunities.
Mayor Baldwin strongly encourages every City resident to complete & return the U.S. Census forms when you receive them in the mail. It is vitally important that everyone be counted because Census information determines how many seats each state will have in the U.S. House of Representatives as well as boundaries of legislative districts. Businesses use census data to locate supermarkets, shopping centers, new housing and other facilities. Census information helps determine locations for schools, roads, hospitals, child-care and senior citizen centers, and more. Every year, more than $300 billion in federal funds is awarded to states and communities based on census data.
The Vincennes City Inspector`s Office reminds all rental property owners that the deadline for the 2010 “Rental Registration” expired Friday, February 19. This permanent fitting station will be staffed by a nationally certified child passenger safety technician who will inspect car seats and instruct families how to properly secure them in their vehicles. Statistics show that at least four out of five car seats are used incorrectly. Improper use of a child safety seat can lead to severe injury and or death.
